The Green House® Project

The Green House® project

The Green House® model was started more than a decade ago to transform long-term care and bring it into the 21st century. They have embedded their vision to move away from institutionalized-looking settings and create real homes while maintaining an excellent quality of life and care in all parts of the United States.

At Cedar Sinai Park, we have adopted these ideals and are building the Harold Schnitzer Health and Rehabilitation Care Center (HSHRCC) to preserve the freedom any person would have inside their own home. The HSHRCC will be made up of four homes, each with twelve individual rooms built around a central living area and kitchen.

The Green House model empowers and encourages everyone that is directly impacted including elders, family members, and staff to give them a voice. The philosophy of the Green House strives for care communities such as ours to demonstrate more powerful, meaningful, and satisfying lives, work, and relationships.

Construction Update for March 4th, 2016

WEST BUILDING

The West Building is ‘dried in’ (meaning the roof is installed to the point the building doesn’t leak), and the infrastructure of the building– Piping, sheet metal and wiring for the fire sprinklers and plumbing systems– is being installed in wall cavities and ceilings. Opening day is just a few short months away!

NORTH BUILDING

The structural framing is underway in the North Building. This work will continue for approximately five months before we see the roof trusses being installed.

RJHC

We are getting closer and closer to beginning the renovation of the current Robison building. The first area to be renovated is the Living Room area. In preparation for this, you will see several staff members moving out of their offices located in that area. Jack and Patty will be moving offices in the Nursing administration area. In addition, the rehab/therapy gym will be relocating to another area in the building. Look for these changes in the next few weeks.

Save the Date for our Annual Event!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 2, 2016! Our annual event to benefit the residents of the Robison Jewish Health Center will take place at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland, and promises to be a magical evening!

Thankful to be of service

Cedar Sinai Park is thankful that we were able to be of service as part of this year’s Jewish Family & Child Service Holiday Campaigns!

JFCS reports that “On Sunday, the holidays were brightened for 62 disadvantaged families who received gift bundles through the JFCS Mitzvah Menorah/Adopt-a-Family Campaign. With the help of our community partners, the many caring individuals and families who “adopted” families in need, our donors, and the amazing volunteers who wrapped and delivered gift bundles, the holiday wishes of these families and individuals came true.”

Cedar Sinai Park was thrilled to help out as a Thanksgiving Food Box Partner, along with Beit Havarim, Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Neveh Shalom, Congregation Shaarie Torah, Congregation Shir Tikvah, Havurah Shalom Religious School, Maayan Torah Day School, Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Portland Jewish Academy and Albertsons Safeway.

We are also thankful for all of the participants in the Adopt-a-Family campaign, including:  Congregation Beth Israel, Congregation Shaarie Torah, Jewish Boy Scouts Troop 739, Jewish Cub Scout Pack 739, Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, Kol Shalom, Maayan Torah Day School, Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Portland Jewish Academy and the many families and individuals who also “adopted.”

JFCS volunteers

It’s a wrap! Volunteers wrapped hundreds of gifts, readying them for delivery to families.

When the community comes together, great things happen! So true.

For more information about JFCS’s Holiday Campaigns, contact Carrie Kaufman, Volunteer & Development Coordinator, by email here or call 503-226-7079 x118.

JFCS is a subsidiary of Cedar Sinai Park.

Rose Schnitzer Manor Resident Art Show

Residents of Rose Schnitzer Manor recently participated in an afternoon of art and appetizers! Zidell Hall was filled with RSM residents enjoying wine, appetizers, piano music, each others’ company and most especially art work made by their talented neighbors!

2015-11-10

Around 30 residents submitted artwork in various mediums. There are so many great people living at Rose Schnitzer Manor and some really great artists too!  All in all, it was a wonderful resident art show. Thanks to everyone who submitted their art and all who attended.
