Certified Medication Aide

Title of Position: Certified Medication Aide (C.M.A.)

Definition: Administers non-injectable medications as prescribed by the physician and under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.  Assists in the care activities of an assigned group of residents; to ensure the Robison Jewish Health Center.  goal of providing care to our residents in an atmosphere of Comfort, Independence, and Dignity.

Reports To: Resident Care Manager or Licensed Nurse Supervisor

Status: Hourly/Non-exempt

.

Qualifications:………… Education: High school graduate or G.E.D. certificate.  Certification as a Nurse Assistant in the State of Oregon, Medication Aide Certification as proof of completion of an approved Medication course, having passed the Oregon State Board of Nursing Medication Aide examination, and must be in good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

Work Experience:  A minimum of one (1) year current nursing experience is required, as either a Certified Nursing Assistant or a Certified Medication Aide.  Prior long-term care experience desired.

Skills:  Ability to handle the many situations that are presented by residents, families, supervisors, and staff.  Ability to do repetitive detail work.  Ability to notice changes in resident’s physical and psycho-social condition and report to the Nurse  Supervisor.  Ability to identify reactions to medications and report them immediately.  Ability to be flexible, adapt to change, and take direction from the Nurse Supervisor.  Must demonstrate knowledge of body mechanics, ability to safely transfer residents, safe feeding techniques.  Computer capability desirable, or willing to learn
