Definition: Harsch Investment Properties is seeking a friendly and knowledgeable social service provider. Such a candidate needs to enjoy working with seniors, disabled persons, and diverse populations. The Service Coordinator position best suits an individual who can work independently as well as collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.

Job Description: Obtain and Coordinate Services for two Section 8 properties in the downtown Portland area.

Provide supportive services to promote independent living for elderly persons and persons with disabilities. Disabilities ranging from physical disabilities, mental illness or developmental disabilities.

Organize monthly events and programs for the buildings, including a monthly newsletter and calendar.

Provide liaison services between residents and the social service agencies that serve them. Service Coordinator also works with residents on issues relating to tenancy, requiring comprehensive knowledge of tenant lease, house rules, and Oregon Landlord Tenant Law.

Reports To: Supervisor of Affordable Housing with Services

Qualifications:………… A Bachelor of Social Work or degree in Gerontology, Psychology or Counseling is preferable; a college degree is fully acceptable. However, individuals without a degree, but with appropriate work experience may be hired.

Training in the aging process, elder services, disability services, eligibility for and procedures of Federal and applicable State entitlement programs, legal liability issues relating to providing service coordination, drug and alcohol use and abuse by the elderly, and mental health issues.

Two to three years experience in social service delivery with senior citizens and people with disabilities.
Demonstrated working knowledge of supportive services and other resources for senior citizens and non-elderly people with disabilities in the area served by the

Basic knowledge of Landlord Resident Laws, ADA requirements, Fair Housing laws, and OHSA regulations.

Ability to effectively communicate issues, problems, and status of jobs. Good organizational skills. Able to be flexible to changing priorities.

Dependable, reliable, cooperative and trustworthy. Excellent interpersonal skills. Attention to detail. Highly organized. Pleasant and courteous. Professional appearance. Self motivated with ability to follow-through and exercise good judgment. Other Job Requirements:………… Physical: Simple grasping of objects/files weighing 5-10 lbs. on a daily basis. Daily pushing/pulling/lifting 15-30 lbs. such as desk drawers, storage boxes and blueprints. Skillful manipulation needed to change printer ink cartridge, adding machine tape, computer paper. Dexterity and strength to add and remove keys from rings. Skillful manipulation required to type and write (sometimes while talking on the phone). Manipulation required to insert and turn keys. Dexterity to count money (paper and coin).
