Older and Wiser: A writer’s cafe
Post Date: 2/22/2010
Five of our very own residents — Mike Mogell, Evelyn Hirsch, Charlotte Wiener, Barbara Dubin & Ruth Henning — will appear at this year’s Pre-JAM Slam at the MJCC. The Pre-JAM Slam is a kick-off event for Jewish Arts Month (JAM), a month-long affair with various art programs happening all around the local Jewish community.
Not only will these residents help to kick off Jewish Arts Month, but they’ll also be drumming up excitement for their very own contribution to JAM — Older and Wiser: A writer’s cafe. On April 22, Rose Schnizer Manor writers will read their beautifully written personal narratives and poetry in a cafe-like setting. Hard-bound copies of their anthology will be presented to the Oregon Jewish Museum and to the RSM Resident Library. The Rose Schnitzer Manor hosted Older and Wiser event is free and open to the public.
These five RSM writers are core members of an on-campus writing group called “Why Not Write?”. All five have attended the writing group nearly every Monday since the group’s inception last fall. Led by the talented Eddy Shuldman, members of the “Why Not Write?” group are challenged with new assignments and fresh writing topics each week. It is not unusual to witness members of the group writing with diligence and determination as if pressing forward to meet an impending deadline. It’s a serious group that knows how to have fun.
So, if you’re in the mood for some wisdom-inspiring poetry and prose, join us for one or both of these exciting events…
