Residents Help Save Polar Bears
Post Date: 6/01/2010
The Resident Council recently adopted a polar bear! And, the residents have a lovely thank you letter from Polar Bears International along with a certificate and special lapel pins to prove it.
Guided by the vision and leadership of Resident Council President Edith Levitt, the Council sealed their commitment to this symbolic adoption with a $100 donation to Polar Bears International (PBI).
The residents’ donation to PBI will help support leading polar bear research and will help support programs around the Arctic to advise communities on how to prevent human-polar bear conflicts. The residents’ donation will also go toward helping PBI work with world zoos in preparing to rescue starving or injured bears — and orphaned cubs — as habitat loss forces stressed bears closer to human settlements.

In addition to adopting a polar bear, many residents decided to pledge an “Act of Green”, or a small act of change aimed at positively impacting the environment. In total, residents and CSP staff members had pledged a total of 46 Acts of Green!
