Curtis Cooper on Guitar

Curtis Cooper has been playing music for 50 years.  He received his B.A. in Music Education from Sonoma State University and is a master percussionist and drummer who plays a number of other instruments.  He was a private drum teacher at the Yamaha School at Stevens Music in Cupertino.  Many of his students have won competitions at county, state, national and international levels, as well as gone on to become professional musicians.

Curtis currently plays percussion with the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band.  He also plays drums with the Randy Heddon Jazz Trio in some of Portland’s finer restaurants and jazz clubs.  Curtis also plays drums for Blackbird, a band that plays a variety of music from the 50s, 60s and 70s with an emphasis on The Beatles.  He has an extensive list of songs ranging from Pop and Jazz to Show Tunes and Country Western.

Nancy Downie Concert

Nancy Downie plays historic​al, “old time” and contemporary music on the hammered dulcimer and Native American flutes. In addition to the unique and uplifting music, she includes anecdotes about history and culture, and informative details about the instruments.

Keiko Twiss on the Koto

Keiko Twiss on the KotoJapanese_Koto

The Koto is a traditional Japanese wooden instrument that is over five feet tall and has 13 strings. The performer must place small bridges underneath each of the 13 strings to tune for each musical piece. Keiko Twiss’s programs include a variety of music, as well as audience interaction about the Koto and its history.

Beyond Little Boxes is a string trio made up of guitar, bass, and mandolin. The group celebrates the songs of Malvina Reynolds with a renewed resonance for the 21st century. Portland folk legend Mary Rose delivers a masterful performance of depth and dimension that encapsulates her life-long commitment to the humanity of our existence and struggle of social and political injustice.

The Portland Symphonic Girlchoir have been delighting and inspiring audiences in Portland, the Northwest, and around the world for 25 years.  Under the unique leadership of Co-Conductors Roberta Q. Jackson and Debra R. Burgess, the award winning Portland Symphonic Girlchoir has taken its place among the finest children’s choral ensembles in North America.  Girlchoir is recognized for its adventurous programming, unparalleled choral music education, commissioning of new music for treble voices, and artistic excellence.  Girlchoir has released 8 CDs; commissioned 25 new works; are frequently featured on All Classical 89.9; and is the first choir to be featured on “Art Beat”, Oregon Public Broadcasting’s award-winning program.

Jewish Community Orchestra Performs!

 

The mission of the Jewish Community Orchestra is to provide enjoyable music to the Jewish and surrounding communities of the Portland Metro area.  As amateur musicians, their goal is to further the growth of local artists by presenting concerts that attract, educate and entertain all audiences.
